Hainanese Chicken Rice or Kow Mun Kai is one of the most common street foods in Thailand. It is a popular Thai dish. It is easy to make and tastes so good.

Ingredients for chicken
  • water to cover whole Chicken
  • 1/2 Tsp salt
  • Whole Chicken
  • Ingredients for rice:
  • 2 cups uncooked jasmine rice
  • 3 cups chicken broth from whole chicken
  • 2 pinches power pepper
  • 8 gloves garlic chopped
  • 1/3 cup olive oil/vegetable oil

Ingredients for sauce
  • 10 Thai chills (More or less depended on how spicy you like)
  • 10 gloves garlic
  • 2 roots of cilantro/or steam of cilantro
  • 3 sliced ginger
  • 1/4 cup soybean pasted
  • 1/2 cups chicken broth from the whole chicken
  • 1 tbsp. fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2-3 lime juice
  • 1-2 Tbsp. picked garlic juice (If you don't have it just leave it out)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves/Cucumber for garnish

Cooking method for chicken:
  1. Add enough water in a pot to cover the whole chicken and bring to a boil
  2. Add chicken after water is boiling and add salt while chicken is boiling you may see bubble stuff, scoop it out and throw away
  3. Remove chicken from pot after cooked and set aside.

Cooking method for rice:
  1. In a hot pan/work. Add olive oil/vegetable oil wait till hot and add garlic.
  2. Stir fry until garlic turns golden brown.
  3. Add rice stir fry for a few more minutes then remove to a rice cooker or pot.
  4. Add chicken broth or soup from the whole. Add powder pepper and cook until rice is done.

Cooking method for soup:
  1. Bring chicken broth and sliced white radishes to boil
  2. After boiling and radish is cooked. Add soy sauce or salt to taste.


Cooking Method for sauce:
  1. In a blender. add Thai chills, garlic ,root of cilantro, chicken broth, ginger, and soy bean sauce.
  2. blend well
  3. Remove to a dish. Add fish sauce or soy sauce, black soy sauce. sugar, picked garlic water, lime juice and mix well. set aside
  4. Add rice to a plate
  5. Sliced chicken into pieces and put on the plate
  6. Add cucumber and cilantro for garnish and serve with the sauce and soup
